Florida Mini Loop Ep4 - Port Mayaca Lock during a storm
It’s day 3 of our Florida Mini Loop adventure from Cape Coral to the Florida Keys. We just crossed Lake Okeechobee and are fixing to lock through at Port Mayaca when a severe thunderstorm rolls in.
Lightning , rain and heavy winds toss and turn our boat Happy Ours - a 2006 341 Meridian into the lock walls as we try to escape its wrath.
Tieing up to the dolphins proves to be another challenge during the storm. Will we make it without damage?
Follow us and our puppy dog Matey as we cruise the Florida Mini Loop on our month long excursion.

The day has arrived for our departure on our Florida Mini Loop boat trip from Cape Coral Florida to The Keys. We’ve prepped, provisioned and prepared our 341 Meridian for the trip of a lifetime. But will we be able to do it? Weather, rain and storms have ravaged Florida this week. Should we stay or should we go now?

We’re getting close to departure day on our 2006 341 Meridian for our trip on the Florida Mini Loop from Cape Coral to the Florida Keys. Preparing and provisioning a boat for a long journey takes teamwork, so the Admiral and Captain get to work getting the boat ready. How much money will we spend at Costco? Florida Mini Loop Boat Prep - Spring Cleaning

We’re working hard getting our 341 Meridian ready for our 600 mile journey around south Florida’s “mini loop” from Cape Coral to the Keys and back. We need to clean out everything we don’t need to make room for new “stuff” for the trip, so we’re going through each and every compartment to see what we can get rid of. Sparks are going to fly as the Captain and Admiral debate what’s stays and what...
Florida Mini Loop Boat Prep - Diving the Hull to check for barnacle

Another step we took to prepare for our Florida mini loop trip. It’s been over 2 months since the boat(a 2006 341 Meridian) was hauled out and the bottom scraped and sanded clean of all growth and barnacle. I wanted to do one final check before we head underway on our 600 mile loop journey around the southern tip of Florida to the keys. Some surprises were found that has me a little concerned. ...
Florida Mini Loop Boat Prep - Replacing Anchor Chain
Просмотров 4,8 тыс.14 дней назад
Our Florida mini loop boat trip is quickly approaching and we are hard at work preparing and provisioning for that journey. Next up is replacing the nearly 20 year old ground tackle on our 2006 341 Meridian sport bridge. We decide to go all chain rode and purchased 200’ of 5/16” G4 galvanized chain. We found a nice supplier on Amazon (link below). We also purchased and installed a new anchor sw...

The admiral has been hinting on a new toy for the boat. So thanks to a recommendation from Captain Brian at The Sailing Project Artemis, we picked up a deal on a Bodyglove Navigator high pressure inflatable paddle board from paddlersoutlet.com. This new addition will be coming with us on our Florida mini loop trip, so expect lots of use and videos coming of it in the future.

Regal XO breakdown - TowBoatUS saves the day
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.21 день назад
A fun filled trip to a waterfront restaurant with friends ends with a boat breakdown and tow back to our dock in the dead of night. We didn’t let that get us down, so break out another tequila and enjoy the ride! One hangover later, I discover the problem on our Regal XO that caused the breakdown. A split hydraulic steering line. Luckily, this fix didn’t require us to break out another thousand...

Wow...
Well, atleast your safe and secure now. Brigette did a fine job. That is hard work without stress.
Good luck crew
The Admiral needs to learn how to operate that boat! If something happens to the Captain the whole crew and boat could be in grave danger. Otherwise, keep up the good work and keep smiling!
still a good video despite the storm wind and rain hopefully tomorrow will be better as you predict stay safe and be safe Alk in Michigan
Boat trips are sometimes work, sometimes an adventure but never "vacation". Yet we do them anyway LOL It's especially tough when having to go stop to stop every day. Hopefully you're planning to spend a few nights in one place, that helps. Thanks for the footage
pretty nasty storm that came. bridget did good helping to lineup with that stern line.
Crazy wild!
🐟Sorry that part of your trip wasn't the best. Take the good with the bad, right? Here's hoping that the rest of your travels go safe and smooth! 🚤
guys, I like your channel. we have a similar size boat and we travel a lot in it. don't take offense, but you really need to invest in some descent mics. listening to your video is downright painful. again, I'm not trying to offend you.
Some wind we just can’t help. We try our best to minimize it but it’s on a boat.
Great job on handling that sporty weather. Storms are beautiful to watch on a video but when you are in it and you are responsible for others’ safety, it’s a different ball game. Incredibly stressful… been there…goes from fun to terror in minutes. At very least it was still light out and you have a large vessel to weather it in. Looking forward to your next installment. I knew this one would have a rain component because I was watching it (the weather) on the news and told my wife, “Oh crap… that’s right where Happy Ours is!” Sending a virtual docking beer to you…
Thanks bud!
Team work makes the dream work! Great job yall! Sure hate to see that dag-gum algae back, but alas it is summer! Praying for ☀️ and calm seas ahead! Thanks for the video & looking forward to the many more to come!😊
Damn, quite the gully washer. You both remained calm and methodical. I admire your teamwork. Bridget hang in there. You were patient not whiny or mad. Get the captain to get you some rain gear for the next storm. All in all, just another boating experience. I had many as Captain Larry's Adventures in the PNW and South Florida.👌👍✌️
Glad you're all OK. Now you have a story that you will be telling for years.
Well done mate!
The Admiral is liable to be staring at a Court Martial if that attitude persists.
They arent all gonna be great days
Must have been like a wind tunnel in the lock chamber when the storm and high winds came through. Good job all. Hopefully that’s the biggest challenge you experience. I think you both earned a couple docking beverages 🥂cheers.
More like mud island
That looked like a rough one. Glad you guys were able to get tied up safely. Is Matey using the fake grass on the boat yet?
Matey hasn’t taken to the astroturf. But he has no choice tonight. Were anchored with no dinghy access to shore atm
Thunderstorms are horrible on a boat. You did great, all three of you! Wishing you calm seas tomorrow 👍
They say good weather never made a good captain (or crew). Great job as a crew getting through that storm. I hope the damage is minimal. Happy Ours is a tough boat and y'all are a tough crew. C & G.
Getting caught out in a big storm is no fun, especially since you can't see anything! Glad you're all safe and I'll look forward to the video on rub rail repair.
Great footage! It's not all sunshine and unicorns
You're on like day 3 and you've already had an adventure.....jeez....
That storm looked like it sucked. And I sort of agree with Bridget that she wasn’t happy about doing so much and probably be afraid at the same time. But when you’re doing a 2 person cruise, unfortunately that stuff is going to happen.
Yikes........it's an adventure? 😀😀😀
WE got caught in a storm like that in the Lake Champlain canal system when cruising to Old Port Montreal, Canada! It was tough but we made it. Great job guys!! I think a docking martini was in order actually!!
Martini sounds good!
After hurricane Ian, I’d be a mess during storms. Good on you two.
Honestly that’s what happened to our dog. He never had an issue with storms until Hurricane Ian
Lets have an adventure He said,It will be fun she said,LOL,Wow,Praying ,In Jesus name for your safety and Calm seas
Nautical!
Hopefully no damage on your starboard side.
Just some abrasion to the stainless rail.
Always an adventure on a boat, some make goods stories later in life.
That rain is crazy
*nice..❤
Great video and questions. Also very professional captain!
Dont get caught in low tide.... :)
What was the ending to the repair job?
Replaced the cable and all is good.
If you want to save your boat from a hurricane, you either need to drive it way inland and tie off the the mangroves, or take it out to deep water, trail about a 300' warp of line off the stern and ride it out. Hook several big container's of oil (e.g. 5 gallon vegetable oil ones like the restaurants get) with their handles thru the warp tied off to the transom. One at a time once the wind comes up and the seas start breaking, take one of the outermost ones, poke about a 1/8" hole in the bottom, disconnect it from the lashings to the transom, and send it down the warp where it will stay at the end of the loop slowly leaking oil. The oil sheen on the top of the water will greatly reduce the breaking of the waves over your stern. Half a dozen or so of those 5 gallon containers should last long enough for you to get thru the worst of the average hurricane. There's an old sailor's adage for when the weather's bad that goes: Tain't a safe night to be ashore. They weren't kidding.
Always wanted to make that trip. I enjoy traveling with you. Safe travels
Great Video. Lots of familiar sights!
Do you have a part number for that cool fuel fitting inlet piece? I've never had an issue with mine, but I'd like to carry a spare seeing how much it acts up on you. Hang in there, bumpy roads lead to beautiful places.
Which model do you have. The old version like I have with the bracket or the newer updated one with barbed fittings?
The newer style. My cool fuel modules were updated by Mercruiser a few years back

Your videos are awesome, expect to hit 100k subscribers soon with this kind of quality. Safe travels.
Thanks. I wish. Lol
You were rifht by my buddies house in moorehaven
do you ever feel that as great as boating is, the stress of having 100+ systems to worry about and maintain, and having 1-3 breaking down at any one time is just not worth the anxiety?
Yes. It’s a sigh of relief not having a boat. I did more worldly things like camping, hiking, hunting, vacations, visiting family. lol But for some reason the water keeps calling me.
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs well put! i guess it's hard to match the highs of a successful outing. minute for minute a perfect boat trip is about as good a way as you could be spending free time
Awesome!!!!
On the fly boat repairs...I remember it well!! Keep smiling. You guys got this.
What’s an adventure without an issue. Can’t wait till the next episode…the suspense.
Captain, most guys who buy a boat and think it’s wine glasses and our a bit non mechanical , learn to late. I am impressed w your protocol and awareness of dealing with issues. Safe travels
